Hometown Heroes 2017: Thomas P. McCannLast Edited:
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. – Thomas P. McCann is in his 35th year as a school administrator, 30 of those being in the Vineland Public Schools. He is the longest serving principal (24 years) in the history of the Vineland School District. His leadership has helped the school go through many changes and his community involvement is extensive.
He recently received Vineland Rotary Club’s Vocational Service Award; the Boys and Girls Club recognized him with the Community Service Award; and he’s been a Man of Malvern for 50 years.
He completed his post-graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in Educational Leadership and his Doctorate in Curriculum Instruction at Temple University.
Throughout his career, McCann has made changing the culture of schools an overarching priority, while treating all students equally and fairly. But his dedication to VHS is his most lasting, and ongoing legacy.
His nominator, a recent graduate, said, “I have appreciated everything that Dr. McCann has done to ensure the success of every student that walks through the doors of VHS. He is a mentor, role model, and friend and exemplifies a Hometown Hero.”
