Hometown Heroes 2017: Rylee HowertonLast Edited:
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. – Rylee Howerton is a very special 11-year-old who is poised and wise well beyond her years, and she is an example of a person with a generous giving spirit despite her own limitations. (Rylee is diagnosed with autism and several other conditions.)
She is the current reigning National Miss Amazing Preteen and the first from New Jersey to win the crown. Miss Amazing is a pageant system for girls and women with disabilities, held in 33 states across America that strives to build confidence and empower those young women.
Rylee collects gloves and hand warmers for the homeless. She has earned the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award every year since she was five. She is the founder of "Choose Wise Words" to encourage people to take a pledge to choose wise words when speaking, so no one’s feelings will be hurt and no one will be offended.
Rylee is truly an amazing girl and deserves to be honored as one of our Hometown Heroes.
