Hometown Heroes 2017: Joel Cruz

Last Edited:

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. – Joel Cruz launched his career with Merrill Lynch in 1992. Today, as senior resident director and wealth management adviser, he continues to bring to a loyal clientele his determined efforts to optimize wealth. But Joel is equally determined to optimize the wealth of his community through his volunteer efforts for several local organizations.

A member of the local operating board of the United Way, Joel has served recently as the chair of the organizing committee for the annual Bone Run in October. His volunteerism was recognized last year when he received the United Way’s John Nichols Volunteer of the Year Award.

He joined the board of directors of the Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA over a year ago.

Joel has also been volunteering, often as a play-by-play announcer, for many years with the Challenger League, dedicated to giving special-needs kids the opportunity to play baseball in a handicapped accessible facility. Joel finds time to lend his talents to these community organizations while balancing a demanding career with being a dedicated and loving husband and father of two children.
