CAMDEN, N.J. -

Students, faculty, and staff at Rutgers University campuses celebrated two and a half centuries worth of education.

The university is commemorated its 250th anniversary on Thursday with birthday festivities on Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick campuses. At South Jersey's local branch in Camden, the campus community threw a celebratory party with a birthday cake, and about three hundred people singing happy birthday.

Along with the festivities, alumni who were attendance shared their expertise and knowledge with students throughout the day.

"I'm so happy to be able to celebrate 250th, but I'm really looking forward to the next 10 years because of the great things we're doing on this campus," said Phoebe Haddon, the chancellor at Rutgers-Camden

The university was founded in 1766.
