Proposed Legislature May Change Driver License Expiration Dates

Last Edited:

A State Senate panel has passed a measure that changes driver's license expiration dates from the last day of the month every four years to the driver's birthday.

The legislation is moving forward after Governor Chris Christie suggested the change as a way to ease wait times at the state's MVC offices. The change was among a number of recommendations, including the elimination of online transaction fees that Christie proposed in response to customer service complaints.

The legislation will go before the full senate for consideration and a similar bill has also been introduced in the Assembly.
