VIDEO: Cedar Creek's Ahmir Mitchell Close to Making College Choice

EGG HARBOR CITY - High school football practice is officially underway. And one of the highest-profile recruits in Cape Atlantic League history is gearing up for his senior season.
"We got a big target on our back, myself, and the team included. But I am, and the rest of the team is ready to take it on,” said Ahmir Mitchell, Cedar Creek Senior.
Cedar Creek’s Ahmir Mitchell holds dozens of scholarship offers. He’s narrowed his list down to two powerhouse programs.
"My decision will be coming sometime this month," said Mitchell. "It’s down to Ohio State and Michigan which is pretty ironic, with them being maybe the biggest rivals in all of sports.  But that’s my main two and I’m excited to make the decision.”
Recruiting can sometimes be a circus these days. But Pirates head coach Tim Watson said that Mitchell is enjoying the attention, without losing focus.
"I think it’s worked for him and it’s worked for everybody surrounding him to make sure that he stays grounded and puts effort into making sure he keeps his mind right,” said Tim Watson, Cedar Creek Head Coach.
Focus is something the Pirates are emphasizing in Egg Harbor City. Six and two before the playoff cutoff last year, but Cedar Creek missed out on the postseason.
"Making sure that the guys know we can’t afford to do little things wrong," said Watson. "We can’t afford for guys showing up late to meetings. That’s the stuff that in some ways may have indirectly caught up with us and caused enough small things to happen to where 6 and 2 didn’t get us in the playoffs."
"We finished out pretty strong," said Mitchell. "Our last four games were all shutouts before it was time to make the cut for the playoffs and we didn’t end up making it. So we’re just trying to roll of it for next year, going into this year, continue being great on defense. We have a lot of playmakers on offense so we want to capitalize off of that.”
