VIDEO: The Atlantic County Utilities Authority Offering Free Open House Tours
ATLANTIC CITY - Many of us drive by them all the time. But few of us really know how the wind turbines work. The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) is helping the public better understand the process with open house tours this summer. Twice a week through August, the staff at the ACUA. Welcomes visitors to the wastewater treatment facility for guided tours of the building and the wind farm which helps power it. The facility is one of largest hybrid wind and solar powered treatment operations in the world. “We love to show people how renewable energy can help decrease our dependence on fossil fuels and how it can work," said Monica Coffey, Communications Manager, ACUA. "We have the wind farm, but we also have a solar project. We can talk to them about alternative fuel vehicles. It’s exciting.” Each wind turbine stretches about 380 feet from the ground to the blade’s tip. The ACUA’s wind farm tours run Mondays and Fridays at 12 p.m.
