VIDEO: Sandra Lopez Becomes First female Hispanic Superior Court Judge in Salem County
SALEM COUNTY - History was made in the Salem County Courthouse on Thursday, as Sandra Lopez swears in as a New Jersey Superior Court Judge. Lopez becomes the first female Hispanic superior court judge to sit on the bench in Salem County.
“I am thrilled to be here today," said Steve Sweeney, NJ State Senate President. "I am very happy for your family to be here to witness this. This is history in the making. And you know what else it is? It’s making our bench even stronger.”
She is the former Ombudsman for the Superior Court of New Jersey, Vicinage 15, which covers Salem, Cumberland, Gloucester counties.
“I cannot promise you I will always make the right decision, or that I will always do the right thing," said Lopez. "I do pledge, however, to always try my best, to humbly serve as the first Hispanic Female Superior Court Judge in Visinage 15.”
Lopez is assigned to the Superior Court Family Division. She replaces David Krell, who died back in 2013.
