VIDEO: Preview of Off Broad Street Players' Shrek the Musical

MILLVILLE - Shrek the Musical is coming to the Levoy Theatre this summer. Filled with familiar characters and scenes, the Off Broad Street Players are bringing this fan-favorite movie to the stage.
“We are just finishing all of the blocking and choreography for all of Act I, and it’s a monster," said John Stephan, the show's director and choreographer. "This whole show is very big and elaborate. A lot of movement, a lot of choreography.”
Even though they’re still in the beginning stages of the production, the cast and crew have high hopes of bringing the animated movie to life.
“Took me a good about (a) year and a half, to get this accent really, really rough and rustic," said Rocco Barbera, who plays Shrek. "I can switch it from there to a bit of an Irish accent, you keep it in kind of the same swing, even go into a little bit of a British accent.”
Despite the puppets and tap dancing mice sprinkled throughout the show, the heartfelt message of the musical still stands out.
“It’s interesting, because I think the play does a really nice job at playing respects to what happens in the movie," said Stephan. "I think the play does a little bit of a better job at keeping the essential story.”
Opening on Friday, July 31st, the Off Broad Street Players are looking forward to showing their audience how to achieve their perfect happy ending.
“Yeah, I’m just so excited to see the end result with everything together, with the set and the costumes, it’s just going to be pretty awesome,” said Alexis Lounsbury, who plays Princess Fiona.
