The New Jersey State Council Announces New Folk Arts Master Artist AwardPosted:
MILLVILLE – The New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA), in co-sponsorship with WheatonArts, has announced that it will honor one exceptional master folk artist with the Folk Arts Master Artist award.
The New State Council on the Arts has supported folk arts programs, projects, and individual folk artists for over 20 years.
The artist selected will be awarded $10,000 for the honor and will have significantly impacted New Jersey’s diverse cultural and artistic landscape. The ideal nominee will demonstrate artistic excellence, as recognized by the field; engagement in continuing artistic accomplishment with a sustained history of folk arts activity within New Jersey; contributions to the community through public presentation, advocacy, and/or education of traditional artistic work; records of significant contributions to preserving and perpetuating the folk and traditional arts.
Nominations for the award may be submitted by individuals or organizations with an application deadline of Saturday, October 31st. Nominees that meet all requirements will be considered by an independent review panel and the recipient will be announced at the NJSCA public meeting in December. Nominees should be a New Jersey resident for at least one year at the time the nomination is made and they must remain a resident during the grant period of Friday, January 1st to Saturday, December 31st, 2016.
