GLASSBORO - Rowan University celebrated the construction of a new residential hall being built on campus.
The new 14-hundred-bed student housing complex, named Holly Pointe Commons, is expected to be completed in fall of 2016. The new development is Rowan's first public-private partnership to develop student housing. And to commemorate the day, Rowan students filled a time capsule with some of their things to celebrate the future of their university.
“These developers are much more efficient in the way that they manage this kind of thing," said Ali Houshmand, Rowan President. "So it’s their money, we don’t have to invest a penny, don’t have to borrow money on behalf of the student’s to build this thing. It’s their money, it’s our land, and together we’re building something wonderful.”
“So our time capsule here is supposed to represent the Rowan today of 2015, and then we wrote letters of hope for the future, for the class of 2065. So we wanted to capture today’s pop culture, and hope for tomorrow’s future because student’s are the future,” Nicole Hilliard, Sophomore at Rowan.
Students from Rowan University filled the time capsule with letters of hope for the future, university memorabilia, like tee-shirts, a hat, a yearbook, a selfie stick, and Hostess Twinkies.
“So our time capsule here is supposed to represent the Rowan today of 2015, and then we wrote letters of hope for the future, for the class of 2065," said Hilliard. "So we wanted to capture today’s pop culture, and hope for tomorrow’s future because student’s are the future.”
