MILLVILLE - Officers from the Millville Police Department are preparing for the three-day Police Unity bike tour in May to ride in memory of officers who have died in the line of duty, including one of their own, officer Christopher Reeves, who died in 2012 in a car accident while on patrol.
“You know, we risk our lives everyday and we have no problem with that, it’s what we do, we put the badge on everyday, not knowing if we’re going to come home,” said Officer Emanuel Morales, Millville Police Department. "So we ride down there, there’s a memorial down there which contains all the names of all the officers that have been killed in the line of duty. We ride down there to honor those officers, support the wall, and the museum that they’re building there.”
To help team MPD raise money to ride down to Washington D.C., Glasstown Brewing Company of Millville is hosting 4 x 4 Jamboree this Sunday. All proceeds raised will goto the officers honoring those who have fallen before them.
“Let’s embrace the fact that we’re in a rural community, let’s do something a little outside the box, and let’s do a four wheel drive jamboree," said Paul Simmons, Owner of Glasstown Brewery Company. "We kind of created a nice little course everyone can drive around. Some of it’s off road, some of it is off road, it’s very scenic, perfect time of year with leaves changing.”
The Jamboree will be leaving the brewery around 10:30 a.m. to begin the drive. The course takes drivers around the area and passes places like the East Point Lighthouse and the Delaware Bay.
For $35.00, any community member is welcome to participate and help donate towards the museum and trip.
“It’ll be nice to get more members from the community out just to show, you know, we know the police have our back, and this is our way of showing we’ve got there’s too," said Paul Simmons.
