Birches Elementary School Students Connect for Week of Respect

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Birches Elementary School students will be connecting color-coded paper chains on Friday, October 9th at 2:30 p.m. as a visual representation of the six pillars of character that they have learned about during the New Jersey Week of Respect. The paper chains were created by grade level and include an individual act of kindness from each student.
During the exercise, the paper chains will be connected by grade level and students and staff will wear shirts that match the colors to their kindness chain.
The following color chains will be created by each grade to represent one of the six pillars of character:
1st Grade
Red, Caring
2nd Grade
Blue, Trustworthiness
3rd Grade
Purple, Citizenship
4th Grade
Orange, Fairness
5th Grade
Green, Responsibility
Support Staff
Yellow, Respect
Students will also recite the Pillar Pledge:
As a Birches Elementary Student
I am trustworthy.
I am respectful.
I am responsible.
I am fair.
I care.
I am a great citizen
Everywhere.....all the time!!
Kindness matters.
