VIDEO: Food Bank of South Jersey Hosts "Canstruction" Contest

PENNSAUKEN TOWNSHIP - The Food Bank of South Jersey is hosting their first “Can-struction” contest for Hunger Action Month. Three local architectural, engineering, and design firms built a structure, entirely made of canned food, for some friendly, and creative competition.
“We left it to them to design their structures, source their cans, and then when it came time for building, they had a strict confine of hours that they could actually build the structures, and they did,” Sabine Mehnert, Senior Manager of Corporate Relations, Food Bank of South Jersey.
The three companies took different takes on how they rearranged their cans based on color, location, and inspiration by the people working for the food bank.
“Depending on where you’re coming from in the mall, you see something totally different,” said Sloane Springer, Lammey and Giorgio Architects. “It’s cool to see, these are three totally different designs, coming from totally different backgrounds."
The public has until October 3rd to vote for their favorite “Can-struction,” on the food bank’s Facebook page. Awards will be given out for different categories, but the Food Bank of South Jersey gets the best reward of them all.
“I believe there is going to be over 11,000, maybe 14,000 cans as a result of this," said Mehnert. "And some of them are great meals, they really are.”
