VIDEO: Cumberland County Code Blue Seeks Volunteers and DonationsPosted:
MILLVILLE - Code Blue of Cumberland County is looking for volunteers to help at this season's Warming Centers.
Volunteers will help prepare meals, clean up, and talk to the people who use Code Blue from November until March.
“Code Blue is an initiative within the community," said Catherine Gardner, Volunteer Coordinator for Code Blue. "That when it’s 32 degrees and above with precipitation or 25 and below without precipitation, the churches open up for the homeless and those that are less fortunate to come inside, get a hot meal, get a bed, and get a place to stay.”
The group is attempting to raise $35,000 worth of donations for the locations in Vineland, Bridgeton, and Millville. Those donations will be for food and better cots for the homeless to sleep on.
“Our program, we don’t want to feed them forever," said Gardner. We want them to become productive citizens of, you know, our community. We need donations of food, and help, volunteers, definitely. And we’re going to purchase our own cots because the office of Emergency Management cots just don’t handle the wear and tear that our guests put them through.”
All volunteers must attend an orientation training and complete an application. For more information about Code Blue of Cumberland County, visit their website, codeblueccnj.org.
