Mary Lou DeFrancisco Appointed Interim Superintendent of Cumberland Regional High School

UPPER DEERFIELD - The Cumberland Regional Board of Education appointed Interim Superintendent Mary Lou DeFrancisco.
DeFrancisco was the Superintendant of the Hammonton School District until her retirement in 2009. Since then, she has severed as Interim Superintendent for the Buena Regional School District and Fairfield Township School.
“She is a lifelong learner who is not afraid of a challenge," said Thomas Davis, Board President. "She is also straightforward and direct. The board felt that we needed someone to be more than a caretaker while we search for a new, permanent superintendent. There are still challenges facing our district, and we believe that Ms. DeFrancisco will help us meet those challenges head-on, not just maintain the status quo until we have a new superintendent in the district.”
During DeFrancisco’s term, the Board of Education will be consulting with the New Jersey School Boards Association, the community, and faculty to find a replacement. Defrancisco is confident her experience will make for a smooth transition.
“Being a part of Cumberland Regional is like coming home again," DeFrancisco said. "Everyone has been welcoming to me. I feel privileged to be able to serve the district and most especially our students. We have begun another exciting year with challenging programs in progress and some continuing to be developed. We continue to be committed to providing the best educational opportunities and programs for our students.”
