Washington Township Board of Education Approves School Calendars

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The Washington Township Board of Education has approved calendars for 2016 to 2017 as well as the 2017 to 2018 school years.
According to Superintendent of Schools, Joe Bollendorf, the calendars are being released so far in advance to allow families to plan accordingly. School starts before Labor Day for both school years.
“It is the mission of the district to be more strategic in the development of our district calendar in an effort to maximize instructional days in advance of state-mandated and other standardized tests which occur at fixed points in time each year,” said Joe Bollendorf, Superintendent of Schools.  “We are also well aware of the demands and rigors of the Common Core standards and the fact that, nationally, many schools have moved to beginning the school year earlier.  While these calendars may be a shift in philosophy locally, we are hopeful Washington Township families will recognize that these changes allow our students to be competitive on a national stage, where other students have the advantage of more instructional time prior to testing.”
