VIDEO: Whitman Elementary School Honors Veterans

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Students at Whitman Elementary School held their veterans program to honor our local heros.
Vets from all branches of the military were treated to a breakfast before the real festivities began in the cafeteria. Students lined the room all decked out in their best red, white, and blue attire as they waved their flags and saluted the men and women of the military.
"It’s great to know that people recognize what the veterans are," said Bob Abbot, Veteran, Board Member. "And a whole lot better than when the Vietnam vets came back and weren’t honored at all. We take this time now and on behalf of all the veterans here and on behalf of veterans and those serving now we say thank you so much. We sincerely appreciate it, you don’t know how much.I have to say the greatest thing that happens is the children that we have, especially here in the district, come out and say the pledge of allegiance, it makes your heart swell."
Not only did students say the pledge of allegiance, they sang patriotic songs, and read thank you notes to help honor each veteran in attendance.
