Military Re-Enactors Visit Orchard Valley Middle School

SEWELL – Orchard Valley Middle School's seventh-graders welcomed two military history reenactors on Monday, November 9th.
Jack Thomas and Tracey Fallon visited the school and spoke to the students about topics such as the role of music during war time.
Thomas began the program dressed in a Civil War era Union musician outfit and played several tunes for the students with his World War I-era bugle.  Thomas explained the roles of bands in military history and described how they used bugles, trumpets, and horns as communication tools during an era without technology.
Fallon dressed in a World War I era Army uniform when he addressed the students about the importance of respecting veterans and what their service has meant to the country as a whole.
Thomas taught fourth and fifth grade in Pennsauken prior to retiring, and he now serves as a member of the Civil War Reenactors Brass Bands. Fallon taught in Gloucester Township and was named New Jersey Teacher of the Year in 1995.
