VIDEO: Workers Start Online Petition For Local Mall to Close on Thanksgiving

DEPTFORD - The Deptford Mall will open its doors at 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
This is the earliest the mall has opened and employees aren’t too happy about it. In fact, they’ve started a petition called, “Do Not Open Deptford Mall on Thanksgiving Day.”
The petition has close to 3,000 signatures already and some shoppers are taking the workers side on this controversial topic.
“I totally disagree with it," said Stephanie Brown, Shopper. "I think Thanksgiving is a time for families and spending time with our family. And we can do all the shopping we want after that.”
The petition has sparked numerous comments to the Deptford Mall Facebook page, begging the mall to close its doors on Thanksgiving.
We did try reaching out to the Deptford Mall and although they declined an on-camera interview, Marketing Manager Lori Belsito provided us with this statement.
“Our hours are actually a factor of decisions made by our department stores and the majority of our specialty retailers who choose to be open on Thanksgiving Day," said Lori Belsito, Marketing Manager Deptford Mall. "We have set our hours to open our doors so that those retailers can conduct their business.”
