Saint Marys Alumnus Builds Outdoor Garden

VINELAND - Saint Augustine Prep Senior, and 2011 Saint Mary Alumnus, Daniel Biagi returned to Saint Mary School to work on an outside garden for the school.
Several individuals and companies assisted Biagi with the garden, which is part of  previously undeveloped idea for the science program. Biagi chose this project as part of Saint Augustine Prep’s Caritas Project which prompts students to take on a community service endeavor that has meaning and substance to that student. Biagi saw this an opportunity to give back to his alma mater.
Biagi was responsible for the design as well as obtaining approvals, materials, and donations of labor and money to bring the project to fruition. “This experience gave me the opportunity to come closer to many people in my community such as Mr. Mark D’Onofrio and Mr. Dan Kuhar, Sr. both St. Mary School board members along with Mr. Steven P. Hogan, Principal and Fr. Robert Sinatra, Pastor of St. Padre Pio Parish that were instrumental in the success of this project.  They listened to my ideas and gave me advice and approval on how things could be done.  I spent quite a few hours with Mr. Jack Quinlan of Quinlan Well Drilling talking about the irrigation and water supply,” said Biagi.
Fifth grade students, Connor Allen, Avery Dortu, and Douglas Farinaccio assisted Biagi in harvesting vegetables that were planted. The crops included lettuce, radishes, and several other vegetables that will be used in the school cafeteria.
