A Cash Assault and a Merchant Meet-and-Greet are on tap this week
In last week’s column, I mentioned that Vineland will have the honor in the spring of hosting one of Main Street New Jersey’s Downtown Institutes. This will a day-long workshop on Wednesday, April 27, and will bring representatives from Main Street districts throughout New Jersey right to our front door. We’ll be hosting this event, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Grant Plaza, 619 E. Landis Avenue.
These workshops, held four times a year, were originally called Downtown Revitalization and Management Institutes (DRMI), and, at one time, all held at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton. A few years ago, Main Street New Jersey decided to take them “on the road” all over New Jersey. Each Downtown Institute deals with a specific part of the Main Street Four-Point Approach—Organization, Design, Promotions, and Economic Restructuring.
We will be hosting the Downtown Institute dealing with “Creating, Branding, and Promoting Local and Regional Destinations.” The facilitator will be Roger Brooks, one of the world’s premier destination creation experts. This program will be of interest especially to public and private officials, downtown management staff and volunteers, business groups, and anyone else looking for inspired training in making their community—and our community—all that it can be. We, in Main Street Vineland, are involved in a major rebranding initiative for our downtown, so this will fit in exactly with what we are doing.
A continental breakfast and afternoon snack are included as part of the program and American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education Credits are pending.
Here’s more good news about this! You don’t have to pay the $80 price that this workshop would normally cost. Thanks in part to sponsorship from Century Savings Bank, it’s free! We have a link on the home page of our Main Street Vineland website—www.mainstreetvineland.org—where you can reserve your spot. It’s that simple! So let’s roll out the red carpet for our guests from around the state and show the best that downtown Vineland has to offer.

Remember that on Wednesday, February 3, we’re having our second cash assault. This one will take place at Spataro’s Pizza and Italian Specialties in the Landis MarketPlace building, 631 E. Landis Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Frank Spataro will have some of his tasty Italian food—pizza and a variety of other dishes—on hand, including some great specials. So head on down there and show him your support. We’ll be having cash assaults once a month.
The next evening, February 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., we’ll have our second Downtown Merchant Meet-and-Greet at Friends and Family Diner (formerly Landis Diner), at 601 E. Landis Avenue. This is a networking event for our downtown merchants to socialize, get to know each other, and hear the latest news from Main Street Vineland. We’ll be having these every other month on the first Thursday. We encourage all downtown businesses to come out and enjoy this networking opportunity.
