VIDEO: Atlantic City Celebrates the New Year Attempting to Break Record

ATLANTIC CITY  - In Atlantic City, revelers not only drank champagne to ring the New Year, they attempted to break a world record for the most champagne corks popped at midnight in one place — at the Playground (formerly the Pier at Caesars).
The previous record was 2,778 corks.
The event was sold out with an expected 3,500 people attending. As of yet, there is no official word on a new record.
In New York City, one million people went to Times Square to ring in the New Year. Party-goers waited hours at the famed Manhattan crossroads for the countdown. There was an unprecedented number of police officers on duty for the event - 6,000 in all - some in civilian clothes, and many heavily armed.
But thankfully everything went off without a hitch and as the clock struck midnight, there were cheers,  fireworks, and lots of New Years kisses.
