Heartland Hospice Looking for Volunteers

Posted:
MILLVILLE - Heartland Hospice needs volunteers with an interest in visiting hospice patients and their families in Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland counties.
The need for volunteers is particularly great in Cumberland County to provide visits or respite sitting for the hospice patients in Vineland, Millville, Bridgeton, and surrounding areas.
Heartland volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help. Volunteers can interact directly with patients and families or, if preferred, can work behind the scenes in the office setting. Volunteers can determine the tasks they are best suited to perform. The tasks of volunteers include:

  • Staying with patients so family members can get a much-needed time out to run errands, go to doctor appointments etc.

  • Reading to patients

  • Playing or singing soothing music to patients

  • Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours

  • Providing a friendly visit to lift a patient's spirits

  • Providing special veteran volunteer support to patients who are veterans

  • Certified Pet Therapy Visitors also needed to provide visits to patients who enjoy dogs. (Pet must be trained, insured and certified.)

Volunteer training will be offered throughout the year.
