VIDEO: South Jersey Takes in Coast Guard Recruits as Part of Operation Fireside

MILLVILLE - A holiday tradition for many in South Jersey is bringing home Coast Guard recruits for Christmas dinner.
Operation Fireside started more than 30 years ago, and this year families and organizations from all across South Jersey set an extra place at their holiday tables for those in training at Coast Guard Base Cape May.
The Elk's Lodge in Millville alone hosted about 80 such recruits.
While the recruits get to take a break from basic training, they enjoy home-cooked holiday meals, and get the chance to make phone calls home, use computers and other things they miss while at the base.
Operation Fireside is sponsored by the American Red Cross.
