HAMMONTON - Kelly and Jim Donio have been running the Toy Market in downtown Hammonton for several years, but this holiday season they're getting a lot of attention.
The business was recognized by Facebook for Business as a success story in relation to how the company uses Facebook to connect to its audience.
“It really sort of picked up and that’s the beauty of Facebook," said Kelly Donio, owner of Toy Market. "It allows us to have a conversation with our customers."
The Donios try to make the Toy Market more than just a normal toy store by offering special events that get families involved. This month, for instance, they held an event that had kids make a cookie plate for Santa and ornaments.
“The kids know that this is a place that they can come in, be themselves [and] check out different toys," said Donio. "Parents can see how they interact and play with them and it’s just a fun place to be."
Zoey, 5, tried out almost every toy in the shop while shopping with her brother and mom on a recent trip.
“It’s the best toys in South Jersey,” said Zoey.
“We’re just really happy that so many people, not just in Hammonton, but in the surrounding communities have really supported us and shopped local and told us that they really like what we’re doing," said Donio.
Vineland native Kelly Frangakis has been shopping at the Toy Market for years to buy items for her two children.
“I love this store," said Frangakis. "They [have] really unique toys — different than, you know, your typical toy store. It’s a really personalized service. I think it’s a great find. It’s a diamond in the rough as far as I’m concerned.”
Adds Donio: “It’s not just about making the sale, it’s about providing the time and making sure they find that perfect gift for that child because every child is different. And if you’re anything like me you got to give them the perfect gift.”
The Toy Market will be open Tuesday and Wednesday (December 22 and 23) until 9 p.m. and until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve for last-minute shoppers..
