Rowan Athletes Participate in 14th Annual Gifts for Giving Event

GLASSBORO – For the seventh year in a row, Rowan University student-athletes helped local children with their holiday shopping.
94 students assisted in support of the organization, An Opportunity’s Knockin' (AOK), for the 14th annual Gifts For Giving.
AOK is a non-profit community group that partners with community sponsors to raise funds so that children can have the chance to shop for loved ones.  The founders of the organization, Pete Mauro of South Harrison Township and Pete Eobbi of Woodbury, are both Naval Engineers and speak at local high schools and Youth Leadership Groups about the importance of integrity, balance, confidence relationships, and the significance of making mistakes.
The event took place on Sunday, December 6th and included a trip to the Walmart Superstore in Turnersville where the athletes assisted 35 children with their shopping then later helped them wrap their gifts.
“The AOK Gifts for Giving event has become a holiday tradition in Rowan Athletics,” said Dave Naphy, Assistant Athletic Director.  “It’s an opportunity for our athletes to give back to the local community in a fun and meaningful way.  Each year, our athletes look forward to this event as evidenced by the large number of volunteers.”
