Birches Elementary School Students Participate in Computer Science Education Week

TURNERSVILLE - Birches Elementary School students embraced their computer programming skills in honor of Computer Science Education Week.
The Hour of Code celebrates Computer Science Week which takes place from Monday, December 7th to Sunday, December 13th and focuses on introducing students to computer science.
Students in grades first through fifth participated in activities that were planned by the schools computer teacher, Nicole Strate. The activities varied in level from basic to coding for junior programmers. The school’s third-grade class created different scenes of a “Minecraft” game, using code to craft characters who performed several actions.
“These are just third-graders, but I get a kick out of listening to them during this activity,” said Nicole Strate, Computers Teacher at Birches Elementary School. “Out of nowhere, I’ll hear one of them say, ‘You have to debug your code!’ They really pick stuff up quickly.”
