Firehouse Magazine Honors City of Vineland Fire Station No. 1

VINELAND – Firehouse magazine recognized the City of Vineland Fire station No. 1 as part of their Second Annual Station Design Awards Showcase.
The Showcase identifies examples of how new public safety facilities are being designed and constructed to meet the needs and responsibilities of the agency, the personnel, and the community that they serve.
Firehouse magazine is a news source for the fire service and generates a monthly national print circulation of over 81,000.
The competition is broken down into several categories, including Career Stations, Satellite Stations, Renovated Stations, Shared Facilities, and Volunteer/Combination. The fire station received a notable mention in the Volunteer/Combination category by a panel of five judges. Westlake Volunteer Fire Station in Katy, Texas received the top ranking in this category.
The panel of judges included:

  • Jeffery Bacidore - Chief of the Elmhurst, Illinois Fire Department and
a certified Chief Fire Officer with the Illinois State Fire Marshall's Office.

  • John Bergeron - Deputy Chief of the Harlem-Roscoe, Illinois Fire

  • Johnny Fong - Owner and principal of FireHouse Designs and certified
by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

"Fire stations have evolved significantly over the past 20 years due to the changing role of fire departments across the country," said Janet Wilmoth, Special Projects Director to Firehouse magazine. "Fire departments now recognize the importance of fire sprinklers, meeting rooms for the community, and designated fitness areas in fire stations, as well as a significant increase in environmental awareness.  It hasn't always been that way."
