Founder of Support Homeless Veterans Visits Thomas Jefferson Elementary School

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Thomas Jefferson Elementary School fifth-grade students learned about the current situation of homeless veterans.
The students spoke with the Founder and President of Support Homeless Veterans, Cara M. Calantuono, about steps that are being taken in order to improve the state of homelessness that many veterans are experiencing.
Support Homeless Veterans was created in 2011 to combat the growing epidemic of homelessness among American Veterans. The organization is devoted to bringing the quality of life to veterans by increasing awareness and involvement throughout the community.
Calantuono discussed the community of six homes her organization established in Philadelphia, which are now housing over two dozen veterans. Further discussions included an overview of problems these veterans face. Students were provided with an opportunity to ask questions and later received an assignment to write a fictional story about homeless veterans.
