VIDEO: State Senate Votes Regarding Smart Guns

MILLVILLE - Smart guns are the newest technology that would allow guns to be fired only by authorized users.
If a bill currently being considered works as intended, smart guns could become the norm in New Jersey. Today the State Senate voted in favor of a bill that requires firearms retailers to sell personalized handguns, also known as smart guns, in the same manner as other handguns.
The legislation would repeal parts of an older law that lawmakers say resulted in fewer of these handguns being sold in the state. Legislators say the new legislation could result in less gun violence if firearms can be limited to only authorized users.
Opponents say the government shouldn't mandate what retailers sell. The bill now goes to the Assembly.
