Cumberland County Department of Health Confirms Flu Clinics During December

CUMBERLAND COUNTY - The Cumberland County Department of Health has announced that it will be providing the public with a way to protect themselves against the flu.
The Department will hold two free flu clinics during the month of December and both will be held at the Cumberland County Health Department on 309 Buck Street in Millville. The first clinic will take place on Thursday, December 3rd from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Participants should bring their insurance information, however, flu shots will be offered at no-copay regardless of insurance status. Additionally, the second clinic will take place on Wednesday, December 23rd from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and flu shots will be offered free of charge for no insurance and under-insured residents.
Health experts now advise that anyone who is 6 months of age or older get vaccinated against influenza every year. People who are at a higher risk for serious complications associated with the flu include:

  • People 65 years and older

  • Children younger than 5, but especially children younger than 2 years old

  • Women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during flu season

  • People with certain chronic health conditions like asthma and COPD, diabetes (both type 1 and 2), heart disease, neurological conditions, and certain other health conditions)

  • Children 6 months to 59 months of age attending any child care center or preschool are required to receive a flu immunization annually between September 1st and December 31st of each year

“A flu shot is the best method of prevention this flu season,” said Megan Sheppard, Health Officer of the Cumberland County Department of Health. “Washing your hands properly is also an effective way to stay healthy this flu season.”
