VIDEO: Local Winery Starts The Giving Tree Campaign

CAPE MAY - The brightly lit trees lining the walkway to the Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery aren’t just for decoration like years past. This year owner and winemaker Todd Wuerker decided to join forces with other local businesses to help bring joy to needy families in the Cape May area.
“We’re doing what we call The Giving Tree," said Wuerker. "It’s a little fundraiser we’re doing to give away ten Christmas trees and toys to needy families through working with Cape Assist.”
Cape Assist will help choose the needy families lucky enough to receive the full Christmas package.
“The families that are selected are going to receive the tree, the stand, the lights on the trees, and it’ll be delivered to their house," said Wuerker. "It really gives them hope and spirit in these colder months. It’s something that really can bring the families together.”
Along with the trees, the families will receive toys and jackets that are being collected at the winery.
“So we have a rather large box for toys and we’ve already had to empty that once already in the first weekend,” said Wuerker.
For every item you donate you’ll receive a free wine tasting in the tasting room at Hawk Haven.
“For me Christmas wasn’t just about going out and buying things for people, it was about what you could give and do for someone else," said Wuerker. "So to be able to place these trees with families that really need them was something that means quite a bit to us here at Hawk Haven.”
The Vineyard and Winery will be accepting donations from now until December 12th because on December 13th the items will be delivered to those families in need.
