As you read this, I’ll be away in Milwaukee at the National Main Streets Conference in Milwaukee, along with Main Street Vineland Assistant Director Robin Barbetti and Business Development Director Robert Scarpa. However, I do want to fill you in on some events that are coming up fast and thick.
Coming up this week is our next Fourth Friday event on May 27. I’m really excited about this because it is the start of a five-month fitness and film themed Fourth Friday event partnership—May through September with the Vineland Health Department. This series, however, will be a part of a variety of events being planned for each Fourth Friday.
Like the other Fitness and Film events in the series, they will take place at the mini-park at the southwest corner of Landis Avenue and the Boulevard, Vineland. The rain location for the exercise and movie will be inside Landis MarketPlace, 631 Landis Avenue, Vineland.
Start off from 6 to 7 p.m. with fitness activities for kids; then shop and dine on the Avenue from 7 to 8:30 p.m., as merchants will be open late that evening. Round out the evening at 8:30 p.m., back at the mini-park, as children and adults alike will delight in a showing of the award-winning film Minions—starring Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, and Michael Keaton—about three minions who are recruited by a super-villain and her inventor to take over the world. Please bring a chair and/or blanket for the fitness program and the movie. Parents must remain with their children.
You can also satisfy your karaoke passion at Friends and Family Diner, 601 E. Landis Avenue, at their karaoke night. This full-filled night of entertainment, is held outdoors every Fourth Friday from 7 to 10 p.m., weather permitting, and will feature hot dogs and hamburgers on an outdoor grill, as well as soft drinks. In case of inclement weather, it will be held indoors.
Coming up the following week is our next Downtown Merchants Meet-and-Greet on Thursday, June 2, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Members 1st Federal Credit Union, 37 W. Landis Avenue. We’re doing these Meet-and-Greets every other month and they’ve been getting bigger and bigger each time as the word gets out among the downtown merchants. They’re discovering that these events are a great place to get to know one another, to network, and to come away not only knowing about their fellow businesses, but about what we in Main Street Vineland are doing for them and can offer them.
It’s also a key opportunity for them to communicate back—to share with us their concerns and something about what they’re doing. Refreshments will be served and we’d like to know how many are coming, so RSVP by the Main Street Vineland office at 856-794-8653 or e-mailing mainstreet@vinelandcity.org no later than Tuesday, May 31.
In between those two events, don’t forget to come out to the Memorial Day events downtown on Monday, May 31—first, the parade on Landis Avenue, to start at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church at Myrtle Street and heading to the Sailor’s Monument at the northeast mini-park at the Boulevard. This, as always, will be followed by a ceremony at Landis Park. Kudos to the United Veterans Council and the City of Vineland for keeping this noble and honorable tradition alive.
Watch out in a future column for news about Cruise Down Memory Lane, coming to Landis Avenue on June 11.
Make downtown Vineland your destination for your shopping needs, as well as for fun all year round. Save money on gasoline, avoid the long lines at the big-box stores, malls, and shopping centers—and also enjoy the events we have in town.
