VIDEO : Visitors Can Now Be Fined Up to $500 for Feeding Seagulls
OCEAN CITY - Jay A. Gillian, Mayor of Ocean City, posted a letter to the city's website stating that from now on the law against feeding seagulls and other wildlife in Ocean City will be strictly enforced. The Mayor says that complaints about emboldened birds trying to take food from people along the beach and boardwalk have increased this summer and that feeding the animals has consequences. Police will no longer be issuing warnings but will be giving fines as high as $500 dollars and even penalties of up to 90 days in prison for anyone caught feeding the birds. The Mayor says this law is for the health and safety of both animals and humans.
