LANDISVILLE - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) food service program is celebrating its second year in a row.
As a partnership effort, the program's goal is to increase participation and efforts to feed children and teenagers "free, nutritious meals" in underserved communities.
The Spanish Speaking People’s Community Center, the program's sponsor, is doing its share by having a summer meal site at the community center, that serves breakfast and lunch to children and teenagers in the Landisville area.
"Even when we say the economy is in recovery it isn't for everybody. So, for families that are really hard-pressed financially, it provides again access to healthy food so kids can grow in the Summer be healthy, come back to school in the Fall ready to learn," said Kevin Concannon, USDA Secretary.
The USDA's Summer Food Service Program depends on partnerships and says its biggest challenges is making members of the community aware of their services which can be found on usda.gov.
