VIDEO : Vineland Housing Corporation Celebrates New Project

VINELAND - On Tuesday, the Vineland Housing Development Corporation celebrated the grand opening of 17 low-income houses on Melrose Court - as part of a ten-year project that has finally come to fruition.
The houses were completed in March and already are fully occupied.
The Development Corporation bought the land about ten years ago to develop the 17 homes but had trouble funding the project because of the economy.
The Vineland Housing Authority revisited the project and decided to rent out the homes to make it easier for low-income residents to have a safe and decent place to live.
"It’s taken a long time, but I think it’s beautiful, I think that it doesn’t look like affordable housing, and that’s our goal. Our goal is so that anybody would drive down this street and say 'that can’t be affordable housing’," said Jackie Jones, Executive Director of Vineland Housing Authority.
The $4.8 million dollar development cost of this project was funded through tax credits and various partnerships with the housing authority.
