ATLANTIC COUNTY - Parents Tressa and John Hauser-Bey, of Atlantic County, are helping their three children diagnosed with Autism and ADHD learn life lessons through On the Go Café LLC.
All three of Hauser-Bey’s children were diagnosed with autism and Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
“It’s very difficult for our children to express themselves and on the go café helps them," said Tressa Hauser-Bey.
The café started four years ago as a life skills program.
“To give them hands on life skills, to teach them with the social skills. The social skills were, are a huge obstacle," said Tressa.
The kids take the orders and make the specialty coffee or teas with the help of their parents, and ring up the customers.
"They all have their specialty talent. They all know what they’re going to do and how they’re going to do it. Sometimes it’s faster and sometimes it’s slower," said John Hauser-Bey.
And over the past four years, both parents say this bright café has helped their children.
“They are really coming into themselves as individuals," said Tressa.
“We’ve seen quite a significance in the children’s development from when we first started off," said John.
All three kids seem to be enjoying their time behind and in front of the counter.
“I like to help my mother make the coffee and the tea," said daughter, Victory Hauser-Bey.
“I like basically all of it so I can’t really say I have a favorite part," said son, Trevis Hauser-Bey.
“I learned how to interact with the peoples so that when we grow up we can know how to do stuff in life," said son, Justus Hauser-Bey.
“When your children have autism your whole family has autism. You really have to get into their world to try and make everything work smoothly every day," said Tressa.
“We have had a great growth in our family. We’ve become closer and we look forward to improving and growing," said John.
You can catch the family of five at on the Go Café LLC every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Brigantine Farmers’ market.
