VIDEO: New Jersey Residents Won't Get Ticketed for Driving with Cofee
NEW JERSEY - Despite a lot of buzz around a recent proposal to crack down on distracted driving, drivers in New Jersey who drink coffee behind the wheel do not need to worry about getting a ticket anytime soon. The sponsor of a bill targeting distracted driving says his measure doesn't specifically cite coffee, despite recent reports focusing on the beverage. Democratic Assemblyman John Wisniewski says he cannot imagine that a police officer would pull anyone over for drinking coffee and that the legislation is aimed at discouraging distracted driving. Current law already prohibits texting or talking without a hands-free device. The new legislation is broader and focuses on distracted driving generally. Wisniewski says he sponsored the legislation to avoid the need for new legislation each time technology changes.
