NEW JERSEY - United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey teamed up with Spencer’s and Spirit Halloween to unveil a new Born Learning Trail at Bargaintown Park in Egg Harbor Township.
“We are dedicating the born learning trail to the city of egg harbor township and it’s an opportunity for parents to take their children through a winding path that has specific areas set up," said Ray Smith, Director of Resource Development at United Way of Greater Philadelphia & South New Jersey.
Many gathered in Egg Harbor Township as the newest addition to the Bargaintown Park was officially unveiled.
“This is one of those tools that will allow children to better learn the environment, as well as the educational aspect of numbers, colors and what the earth is made of," said Smith.
“So a parent will ask a child what do you see around you, what are these things? It’s encouraging the children to ask questions and to answer questions. So it’s an opportunity to create some dialogue about the environment," said Smith.
“We’ve been here in Egg Harbor Township since 1947, so this is home base for us and we’ve been very active with United Way," said Steven Silverstein, CEO at Spencer's & Spirit Halloween.
“We had 20 people out here who just let their imaginations go wild. It was very creative and you know all the painting, they just gave us ideas and we kind of just went with it," said Silverstein.
Once the ribbon was officially cut Monday morning, a group of Egg Harbor Township campers were the first to try out the new Born Learning trail.
After completing the journey they celebrated with snacks and literacy kits.
“You will find something that will beneficial to you as a parent and to your child. It’s worth the time to spend to come down and just enjoy the nature and enjoy what you learn," said Smith.
