VIDEO: SNJ Today Expands Cara McCollum's Birthday Book Project

Posted:
When we lost our former lead anchor, Cara McCollum, following a car accident in February, we wanted to do something to honor her memory.
So to honor her legacy we're continuing and expanding a program that Cara started when she was just a teenager. And the public can help, too.
Cara started the Birthday Book Project in her hometown of Forrest City, Arkansas.
Her mission was to provide underprivileged children with a new book on their birthdays.
She once said, "If I can place a book in the hands of kids on their birthdays, I can show them what a gift reading can be."
Now, along with our news team here, and with the help of Cara's family, you can be a part of her mission, too.
In her honor we've started the Cara McCollum Birthday Book Project of Southern New Jersey.
We will begin delivering new, gift wrapped books to elementary public school children here in South Jersey on their birthdays.
