VIDEO: Fallen Coast Guard Recruit's Family Attends Company's Graduation
The family of the coast guard recruit who collapsed and died after a physical fitness run last month, attended his company's graduation today in Cape May. During today's ceremony at the Coast Guard Training Center, Aaron Redd was made an honorary graduate. It's unclear why the 21-year-old of Stafford, Virginia collapsed on July 1 after a 1 point 5-mile run at the center. He died five days later . Redd's parents said that the honor helped their son fulfill his dream of becoming a coast guardsman. Captain Owen Gibbons said Redd and his family "Are forever part of our coast guard family now." Following Redd's death, his heart was donated to a person in need of a transplant through the Gift of Life program.
