WOODSTOWN, N.J. – The Woodstown Wolverines have qualified for the South Jersey Group II playoffs five years in a row and move down to Group I this season.
The Wolverines won the West Jersey Diamond Division Crown last season. That was the third division title in the last five years for Woodstown...
Woodstown moves down to South Jersey group one this season, and head coach John Adams is already forced to get creative thanks to a rash of injuries. Those injuries include senior quarterback Chad Watt, who's out for the season.
It's a "next man up" mentality for Woodstown, which could be in an interesting spot come playoff time.
"It's definitely a little bit more exciting being in Group 1, with the competition that we face year in and year out. In Group 2 we played our normal schedule and then we had a lot of unknowns and unknown teams that we were competing against. I think our kids will be a little bit more excited, to go against the Group 1's. They've been the ones that have been a staple on our schedule for a while. So it brings a little higher level of excitement to the playoffs," said Adams.
With so many good Group I teams on the schedule, the Wolverines would most likely face one of those teams again in the postseason.
"Hopefully we can all get healthy and then really we're just hoping to go out there and do what we know we can do. We know we're one of the better teams in Group 1. Even if we were still in Group 2, we'd definitely contend and we just want to go out there and show the rest of the teams we play this season what we can do," said Fullback Matt Blocksom.
Woodstown gets crossover games against Overbrook, West Deptford, and Schalick this season. And the Wolverines open with a Diamond Division showdown on the road at Pennsville next Friday night.
