Video: New Miss America, Savvy Shields, Begins Reign With Atlantic City Surf Romp

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – On Monday morning, Miss America 2017, Savvy Shields, took part in the traditional romp in the surf on the beach outside Boardwalk Hall, where she won the crown the night before.
Shields topped the field of 52 contestants, representing every state along with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and succeeding the outgoing Miss America, Betty Cantrell.
She jumped in the surf a few times and then posed next to a lifeboat in the traditional pose that Miss Americas strike the morning after winning the crown.
Shields is an art major at the University of Arkansas and her platform that she will be promoting during her reign at Miss America is aimed at helping people make better food choices.
