OBSPs Carousel Partners with Center of Family Services to Help Victims of Domestic Violence

The Off Broad Street Players’ (OBSP) upcoming production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel will help victims of domestic violence through OBSP’s partnership with the Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV) program.
A portion of each regular-priced ticket sold for performances of Carousel will be donated to SERV, of the Center for Family Services, to further the program’s support of victims of domestic violence in Cumberland and Gloucester County. The non-profit program offers confidential and free 24/7 services, including counseling, education, and outreach. SERV also provides staff to accompany victims to hospitals, police departments, and court appointments, as well as emergency safe housing for victims of domestic violence.
The Levoy Theatre, the resident theatre company for OBSP, has also pledged its support. SERV will be on hand in the theatre lobby to discuss the program’s services and the difference it makes in the lives of the Southern New Jersey community. In addition, SERV staff members will take part in the “talkback” discussions of Carousel, featuring the director and cast members, to be held after the production’s February 8th and 13th performances.
“Domestic violence is a tragic and age-old issue that has affected far too many members of our community, and we want to help,” said David Halter, president of OBSP’s board of trustees. “Even a small part of Carousel’s beautiful story highlights the effects of domestic violence on a small town, a beautiful young couple, and the family they try to create together. Our production of this Broadway classic inspired us to seek out a way we could do a small part, and we were very pleased and fortunate to be able to partner with the dedicated people of the SERV program, who play a very large part in the support of victims and the work to eradicate this terrible issue.”
Carousel opens Friday, February 6th at 7:30 pm at the Levoy Theatre and runs through Sunday, February 15th. Tickets are available at www.levoy.net.
