Penn State Football Players Read to Students at Barse School

Penn State football players Antoine White and Chaz Wright were guest readers at Barse Elementary School in Vineland prior to the holiday break, according to Michele Thompson, a first grade teacher at the school.
The two players spoke to the students about the importance of reading, read stories, and signed autographs.
"The children were in awe of the size of the two players," said Thompson. White, a defensive tackle from Millville High School, is 6'5" and 280 pounds. Wright, also a defensive tackle, is 6'7" and 320 pounds.
Thompson said the students "beamed with enthusiasm as the players read to them. The players were like oversized teddy bears -- gentle giants --- and they smiled and graciously answered questions from the students about their weight and favorite colors."
The visit came only a week before the two players helped the Nittany Lions defeat Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.
According to Thompson, White aspires to work with children after completing his undergraduate and graduate studies at PSU.
"This was his first experience in motivational speaking and he has promised to continue visiting schools in Cumberland County," said Thompson. "He is the most humble and loving person you could have the pleasure of knowing.  He said he was 'blessed to have met the Barse children' and thanked us for the opportunity."
