Bay Atlantic Symphony's January Music Lecture Series

Starting Monday, January 12th, 2015, Paul M. Somers will begin the Bay Atlantic Symphony's Music Lecture Series. Somers, Adult Education Director for the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, will discuss composers who dominated Russian classical music in the late 19th century, and helped to shape that country’s nationalist musical voice.
The first installment, taking place in Little Egg Harbor Township and Vineland, will include recordings from Mily Balakirev, Modest Mussorgsky, Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Alexander Borodin, and César Cui.
The January lectures, co-sponsored by the respective libraries, will take place as follows:

  • Monday, January 12th, 1 to 2:30 pm, at Ocean County Library, Little Egg Harbor Branch, 290 Mathistown Road, Little Egg Harbor Township; and, Monday, January 12th, 6 pm, in the Community Event Room of the Vineland Public Library, 1058 E. Landis Avenue, Vineland. (Please note the change in date because of Dr. Martin Luther King Day);

  • Tuesday, January 13th, 10:30 am to 12 pm, at Ocean City Public Library, Room 110, 1735 Simpson Avenue, Ocean City;

  • Thursday, January 15th, 6 to 7:30 pm, at Margate Public Library, 8100 Atlantic Avenue, Margate.

Subsequent lectures this season will explore French music a century ago in February, and Vienna two centuries ago in March, along with a question-and-answer session in April and a "Fresh Ears" experience in May.
