Thanksgiving Activity Teaches Students Importance of a Budget

Fifth-grade students from Wedgewood Elementary School were recently taught an important lesson on handling their finances.
Teacher Mrs. Donna McGough, gave each student a $100 pretend budget to plan a Thanksgiving meal for their families.  Students were handed circulars from Shoprite and a calculator to determine what they would be able to afford with their funds.
During the activity, students were enthusiastic to make a spending plan.  They asked all kinds of questions such as how do you estimate the correct number of food based on how many family members there would be.  They even began looking for sale items as they were running low on money.
In the end, the exercise helped children in Mrs. Donna McGough's class acknowledge the importance of balancing a budget.
