MARGATE The South Jersey Lifeguard Championships took place on Friday, August 14th. Defending champion Margate earned the right to host the 76th Annual races.
The night began with the doubles row with defending champs Vince Granese and Jim Smith of Atlantic City earning the victory. Margate’s Chuck Gowdy and Chris Graves came in second, while Avalon’s Matt Wolf and Jacob Enright finished in third.
Next up was the swim. Brigantine’s Shane McKenzie, who came in second last summer, earned first place this time around. Ocean city’s Quinn Cassidy grabbed second and Sea Isle City’s Joe Ferreri came in third.
The night finished with the singles row. Defending champion Ashton Funk same in fourth place this year. Ventnor’s Dave Funk earned the win this year, Wildwood's Darrick Kobierowski placed second and Avalon's Erich Wolf finished in third pace.
After the night was over, Avalon earned the overall victory and the right to host the 2016 South Jersey Championships.
